Henan Medical School Becomes Council Member of Belt & Road International Medical Education Alliance

On June 19, the first meeting of the second council of the Belt & Road International Medical Education Alliance (BRIMEA), the fifth International Higher Medical Education Forum and the 40th Anniversary Meeting of Establishment of International Medical Education Institute of China Medical University were grandly held in Shenyang. Henan Medical School (HMS) joined as a council member to the alliance. Ren Xuequn, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee and Executive Vice President of HMS, made comments on-line on joining the alliance on behalf of HMS, and Ji Xinying, Vice Dean of HMS, attended the on-site meeting.

The theme of this meeting is “Insist on the medical innovation-driven development strategy and discuss the high-quality development of medical education". More than 240 medical education experts and scholars at home and abroad from 67 medical education institutions in 18 countries participated in this forum in online or offline form. Professor Wang Weimin, Executive Deputy Director of the National Medical Education Development Center, Chairman of the Medical Education Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, Deputy Director of Peking University Health Science Center, Professor David A. Hirsh, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education at Harvard Medical School, and Professor Khalid Masood Gondal, President of King Edward Medical University (Pakistan) made keynote speeches at the meeting. The forum was broadcast live at the same time, and it was watched online by nearly 43,000 teachers, medical staff and managers from various alliance units and around the world.

From 2020 to 2021, the alliance has absorbed ten colleges and universities including HMS as new members of the alliance, promoting interconnection, common development, mutual benefit and win-win among the alliance members, and realizing the sustainable development of the alliance. The successful convening of this council and the successful holding of the forum will further promote the interaction among members of the alliance, deepen the exchanges and cooperation among member units, and jointly contribute to the development of international medical education.

HMS will take the opportunity of joining BRIMEA to strengthen effective docking with peers at home and abroad, integrate a variety of high-quality resources at home and abroad, set the positioning of HENU as Chinese characteristics, world-class, and Central Plains style, deeply grasp the new era, new changes, new opportunities and new requirements, size up the situation, make scientifical planning, innovate ideas, seize opportunities, and comprehensively promote the HENU’s construction of first-class disciplines and university and the high quality rapid development of various educational undertakings with the high-level internationalization of HMS.
