The selection results of the 2021 Provincial-level Famous Teacher in Teaching were officially announced, and Professor Bai Huiling from the School of Basic Medical Sciences (SBMS) was on the list.
Bai Huiling joined the teaching and research section of Medical Immunology in 1988. During her 33 years of higher medical education, she always kept in mind the CPC’s educational guidelines and policies, carried out ideological, political and humanistic education in combination with professional education, taught immunology theories while running through medical ethics education, enriched students’ knowledge structure, and improved students’ comprehensive quality. For example, when teaching MHC and transplant immunization, she introduced and publicized the knowledge and significance of bone marrow donation and blood donation. Every year, hundreds of students volunteer to donate blood free of charge to help others under the call of Teacher Bai. Medical Immunology is a frontier subject of life sciences and an applied subject closely linked to practice. Knowledge is updated rapidly, is abstract and difficult to understand. Bai Huiling insists on taking the basic theories and concepts of immunology as the core in teaching work, and prepares practical PPT teaching plans and Immunology Teaching Outline for students of different majors. Combined with the latest scientific research progress and clinical knowledge, she improves the amount of classroom information, and cultivates students' innovative thinking and practical skills. Due to excellent teaching quality, Bai Huiling won two special prizes in the teaching quality competition of HENU; in 2009, she won the first prize in the Henan Provincial Teaching Skills Competition and was awarded the honorary title of Teaching Model; and the provincial teaching reform project she presided over won the first prize of Henan Province Higher Education Teaching Achievement in 2016 and 2020.
In recent years, with the rapid development of information technology, Bai Huiling organized a teaching team to carefully design and produce various forms of multimedia teaching materials such as micro-videos and teaching animations. Combined with online teaching platforms such as Rain Classroom, DingTalk and Wisdom Tree, Bai Huiling has actively developed online and offline mixed teaching, and has formed a learning model of “problem guide\online preview + offline intensive lecture\group discussion + online assessment\homework improvement”. This model is teacher-led and student-centered, which realizes complementary advantages of online resources and classroom teaching, and effective integration of in-class knowledge and cutting-edge progress, and has fully mobilized the enthusiasm of students for independent learning. Students have a strong response and strong interest. In 2021, the course was approved as a first-class online and offline combined course in Henan Province, and is currently actively applying for a national-level first-class course.
Since 2013, due to outstanding teaching performance, Bai Huiling has served as the Deputy Dean of Teaching of SBMS, organized all teachers and students to successfully complete the undergraduate teaching review and evaluation led by the Ministry of Education, and established the teaching direction of the deep integration of information technology and medical education. SBMS has successively established hardware equipment such as medical multimedia studio, morphology virtual simulation experiment interactive system, smart laboratory, etc., established the first provincial-level virtual simulation experiment teaching demonstration center in Henan Province, and established the MOOC platform of HENU for basic medical sciences. Up to now, a total of 8 provincial courses of various types have been approved.
It is reported that the application and selection for Provincial-level Famous Teacher in Teaching is organized by Department of Education of Henan Province in order to implement the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the National/Provincial Education Conference in accordance with the Notice on Application for Central Plains Talent Program (Education Series) in 2021 and the Implementation Opinions of Department of Education of Henan Province on Accelerating the Construction of High-Level Undergraduate Education and Comprehensively Improving Talent Training Ability issued by the provincial talent work leading group office. It is required that the candidate teachers are loyal to the education of the Party and the People, fully implement the Party's education policy, have long been engaged in front-line teaching work, and have made outstanding contributions to cultivating outstanding young talents; and have made important innovations in educational thinking and teaching methods, and have outstanding teaching results and education quality. Next, the school will also set up a famous teaching teacher studio to implement special support policies for famous teaching teachers, and it is believed that it will play a demonstrative and leading role in the growth of young teachers in SBMS.
