In the just-concluded application of HENU Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program, 383 projects from various units of HENU have been approved, of which 33 projects are under the guidance of teachers of the School of Basic Medical Sciences (SBMS).

More than 100 students of project teams are distributed in the School of Clinical Medicine, School of Stomatology, School of Nursing and Health, and School of Pharmacy. The projects involve the R&D of SARS-CoV-2 test kits, molecular basis of the etiology, progress and treatment of a variety of tumors and other medical fields, with very high clinical value and good application prospects. Dong Jiaoyue, who conducted scientific research experiments with Teacher Wang Zhizeng from Joint National Laboratory for Antibody Drug Engineering of SBMS, recalled that at the seminar of the Medical Immunology, from Teacher Wang’s introduction, she learned how to use her learned professional knowledge to detect SARS-CoV-2 virus that is still raging around the world. She was particularly interested in it, so she took the initiative to contact Teacher Wang and hope to join the project. At present, under the careful guidance of Teacher Wang, the project has successfully transferred the R&D outcomes into application. Dong Jiaoyue expressed thanks to Teacher Wang Zhizeng for his guidance and also thanks to SBMS for providing her with such a good learning opportunity, allowing her as an undergraduate student to also make her own contribution to the prevention and control of the epidemic in the motherland.

Since 2019, BMS has undertaken a total of 71 basic medical courses, supporting the construction of 7 majors in clinical medicine, stomatology, nursing, and pharmacy. BMS always attaches great importance to the guidance of university students' innovation and entrepreneurship projects, and each project application exceeds the quota. The outstanding results in the application of this university student innovation and entrepreneurship projects are due to the teachers’ enthusiasm to guide students, and the new regulations of “no quota for each school” formulated this time, so that the projects guided by the teachers of BMS all enter the university-level selections. It is believed that the reasonably optimized system can better stimulate the teaching enthusiasm of all teachers and promote the school’s “double first-class” construction.
