Founded in 1955, Huaihe Hospital is a Grade III Level A hospital directly subordinated to Henan Province which integrates medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention, health care, health recovery and emergency treatment. The hospital is firstly titled the National Model Hospital, National Baby-Friendly Hospital, national bases for Stroke Screening and Prevention, Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program and Laparoscopy-Endoscopy Training and Coronary Intervention Training of National Health and Family Planning Commission.

The hospital has two courtyards, the South Hospital and the North Hospital, covering an area of 106.65 mu (unit of area, 1 mu=0.0667 hectares), with a building area of 106.6 million square meters and 2 700 beds.

There are 34 departments in the hospital such as internal medicine-cardiovascular department and general surgery. It has 7 Key (Cultivation) Subjects at Provincial Level, Translational Medicine Research Center of Henan University( Huaihai Sub-Centre), Henan International Joint Laboratory for Sepsis Henan International Joint Laboratory of Cellular Medical Engineering, Henan Engineering Laboratory of Translational Medicine for Infectious Diseases, 4 research institutes at provincial and ministerial level and 1 laboratory in school level.

The first Research Center for Evidence-based Medicine Online Cooperation of Henan University Branch Center under Ministry of Education and Transforming Medical Workstation for Academicians and Specialists of Henan University are located in the Huaihe Hospital.

At present, it has 2172 faculty and staff, 2008 professional and technical personnel, 69 personnel with senior professional titles, 185 professors, 40 professors, 170 master tutors, 380 of teaching employees having master and phD degrees. Besides, there are 3 persons enjoying State Apartment special allowance, 2 Yellow River Scholars of Henan University, 4 specially appointed professors.
