Located at the bank of Yellow River and green city—Zhengzhou, the precursor of the People’s Hospital of Henan University (Henan People’s Hospital) is Evangelical Hospital in Kaifeng which was built by Mainland China Associations of Chinese Christian in 1904. In 2012, it was formally established as ‘ministry-province co-construction’ hospital.

The hospital holds 11 key national clinical specialty construction projects, 24 key medical disciplines (including key cultivation disciplines) and 10 innovative sci-tech teams in Henan Province. In addition, 17 state-level training centers, 42 provincial quality control, diagnosis and treatment centers, 2 provincial key laboratories and 2 provincial engineering laboratories also belong to it.

It conscientiously implements the strategic plan of “13th Five-Year Plan” of State and Provincial CPC Committee, and carries out “23456” Talent Project and “66508” Discipline Construction Project around some key elements, such as ‘talent, discipline, health services and exchange of wisdom’. In order to build a development pattern of multi-district and multi-hospital collectivization, it has established Henan Provincial Hospital for Ophthalmology, Henan Provincial Cardiovascular Hospital, Henan Reproductive Hospital and its other medical organizations, Fuwai Heart Hospital in Central China constructed by Fuwai Hospital and Henan Province, Sub Center in Central China of National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases.

It also actively promotes the implementation of classified diagnosis and treatment system and builds interconnected and intelligent classified diagnosis and treatment system. And it has been established first International Teleconsultation Platform by “direct connection” with foreign organizations, which has achieved telemedicine and interconnection with internationally-known medical institutions, such as UCLA and Mayo Clinic.

The hospital has obtained many titles of honor, namely, the National Model Hospital, Advanced Collective of the National Health System. It is also one of "Top Ten Highlights Hospitals for Improving Medical Services" of State Family Planning Commission, "Model Hospital for Improving Medical Services", “Excellent Managers for Improving Medical Services”, “Quality-service Post for Improving Medical Services” in 2016. Besides, for three consecutive years, it is selected as “National Civilized Unit” and has the best health system in the Henan Province.
