Found in 1949 and located in an ancient capital of eight dynasties, Kaifeng, the First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University has become a provincial comprehensive hospital in the third grade, which integrates medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention, rehabilitation and emergency treatment. It is a model of Provincial Civilized Units.

There are more than 1700 faculties in the hospital, including 300 and more professors, professors with titles above vice-senior and doctors, 1 with special allowances from the State Council and 1 with it from the Provincial Government, 1 as the leader of provincial special subject in science and technology, and 8 young reserve talents in science and technology, and 3 Yellow River Scholars.

With more than 1600 open beds, the hospital is among the first batch of National Standardized Training Bases for General Practitioners (residents) and Training Base for Physician education and training program of excellence of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. It has gemstone energy spectrum CT, 3.0T magnetic resonance, SPECT-CT, PET-CT, PET-MR and other advanced equipment.

The hospital is a first-level discipline authorized unit for professional and academic Master's Degrees in clinical medicine, covering 20 second-level disciplines. It is one of the comprehensive hospitals with the most complete majors in Henan Province. There are 13 provincial key medical (cultivation) disciplines, 2 key provincial disciplines of Education Department of Henan Province, and 9 scientific research institutions such as Henan Joint International Research Laboratory of Neurological Diseases.

In recent years, more than 180 scientific research projects have been established and 20 projects have been approved by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Among them, the International Cooperation on Key Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China has filled the blank of clinical medicine projects of the health system in Henan Province.

The hospital continuously strengthens foreign exchanges, establishes overseas training bases, regularly dispatches promising staff in departments to the United States, Germany, Canada and other countries for academic exchanges and technical training, with over 300 person-times cumulative exchange learning.
