On the morning of March 29, 2021, the signing ceremony for jointly establishing Zhengzhou Institute of Respiratory Health by HENU, GIRH and Ruisi Health Industry (Henan) Co., Ltd. was held in the meeting room on the 30th floor of GIRH.

Academician Zhong Nanshan, the leading figure of GIRH, Dean He Jianxing, Vice Dean Li Shiyue, Vice Dean Zheng Jinping, Lu Keping, Secretary of CPC Committee of HENU, President Song Chunpeng, Vice President Xu Shaokang, Sun Junjian, Vice President of HENU and Secretary of CPC Committee of Henan Medical School (HMS), Niu Ruihua, Director of Zhengdong New District Management Committee and Director of Zhengzhou Zhongyuan Science and Technology City Management Committee, and Zhu Tianlong, Chairman of Ruisi Health Industry (Henan) Co., Ltd., attended the signing ceremony. The heads of relevant departments and units including the Office of the CPC Committee, the Office of the President, the Propaganda Department of the CPC Committee, the Graduate School, HMS, the Huaihe Hospital, and the First Affiliated Hospital of HENU attended the signing ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Huang Qinghui, Vice President and Branch Secretary of GIRH.

He Jianxing extended a warm welcome to everyone. In his speech, he said that Henan is the birthplace of the Central Plains culture and a province with a large population. As a “Double First-Class” university, HENU has done a good job in all aspects. Respiratory diseases are common throughout the country, and GIRH has been doing research in this area for many years. The Zhengdong New District government strongly supports the cooperation of several parties to build the Zhengzhou Institute of Respiratory Health, which is an important good thing for Henan. Respiratory health-related scientific research, development, innovation and technology promotion and application meet the needs of the people and will certainly be welcomed by the people. Under the deployment of Academician Zhong Nanshan and the cooperation of all parties, we hope that we can actually implement the project, so that it can make greater contributions to the continuous development and growth of the national health cause in a win-win situation, and provide greater and better protection for the respiratory health of the people.

Lu Keping said in his speech that GIRH is one of the earliest established respiratory disease research institutions in China. Under the leadership of Academician Zhong Nanshan, it has become a domestically leading and world-class highland of personnel training, scientific research and medical services in the respiratory field. It has made great contributions to the prevention and control of SARS and COVID-19 epidemics that have attracted worldwide attention. The medicine discipline of HENU was founded in 1928. In the past 100 years, it has trained a large number of medical experts and medical workers represented by Zhu Deming, Zhang Xiaofang, and Hu Peilan, which have contributed to the medical higher education and medical and health undertakings in Henan and even the whole country. The jointly establishment of the Zhengzhou Institute of Respiratory Health by HENU, GIRH and Ruisi Company is a concrete action to implement the concept of People First and Life First, proposed by the General Secretary Xi Jinping. It is a vivid practice of serving for the strategy of healthy China and healthy Central Plains, and a powerful measure to promote the high-quality development of medical education in Henan Province and meet the urgent needs of Henan people for high-quality medical services. HENU will give policy priority and key support for Zhengzhou Institute of Respiratory Health in terms of resource allocation, platform construction, and talent introduction. It is hoped that with the joint efforts of all parties and under the guidance and support of Academician Zhong Nanshan, Zhengzhou Institute of Respiratory Health will be built to a domestic first-class respiratory disease scientific research and talent training highland, which will better benefit the people.

In his speech, Niu Ruihua said that the three parties have joined forces to give full play to their respective characteristics and advantages in scientific research, talent team, subject platform, transformation of achievements of industry, universities and research, etc., to jointly build Zhengzhou Institute of Respiratory Health in Zhongyuan Science and Technology City, create a domestic first-class respiratory system disease scientific research and top talent training base, and build a medical science and technology innovation platform with the integration of medicine, teaching, research and industry, which is an important event in the history of the development of health undertakings in Zhengdong New District. Zhengdong New District will further optimize services, strengthen guarantees, make every effort to promote the implementation of the project as soon as possible, and work hand in hand with the contracted three parties to jointly create a new highland for the development of respiratory health industry in China.

Zhu Tianlong said in his speech that Ruisi Company, as the project lead liaison and industry-university-research platform construction unit, will, under the guidance of the team of Academician Zhong Nanshan, commit to the development of the industry-university-research business of Zhengzhou Institute of Respiratory Health. It is committed to the introduction and utilization of high-end talents, incubation, transformation and industrialization of high-level original scientific research results. It will establish a sound and flexible industry-university-research mechanism, and realize the benign interactive development between the Institute and the industry-university-research platform, and between scientific research and industry. Ruisi Company promises to do its utmost to do all the work with due diligence, strive for the completion of the Zhengzhou Institute of Respiratory Health as soon as possible, and make full preparations for the team of Academician Zhong Nanshan to enter Henan to carry out work.

After listening to the speeches of the guests, Academician Zhong Nanshan said in his speech that he had been to Henan many times and he likes the cities in Henan very much. Henan's public health services have done a good job and achieved good results in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020. The leadership of Zhengdong New District attaches great importance to health and medical work, which provides key guarantee for promoting the development of regional health undertakings. The Ruisi Company takes the lead in coordinating all parties in construction, and its model is in line with the structure and thinking of industry-university-research. Respiratory diseases have become an important issue of global medical care and public health due to their high incidence, heavy burden, and great threat to population health. GIRH has done some work in the research and treatment of respiratory diseases and accumulated some experience. He hopes that this cooperation can do more in-depth research around the difficult problems; launch some substantive measures around the joint talent training of HENU and GIRH; and combine prevention with treatment, and explore a unique development path for health care. All parties can learn from each other and work together to make greater contributions to the health of the Henan people and the overall improvement of the national medical level.

Witnessed by the participants, Li Shiyue, Song Chunpeng and Zhu Tianlong signed a cooperation agreement to jointly build the Zhengzhou Institute of Respiratory Health.

It is reported that the joint building of Zhengzhou Institute of Respiratory Health by HENU, GIRH and Ruisi Health Industry (Henan) Co., Ltd. is another important measure of HENU to promote opening up and serve Henan and the national strategy. It is conducive to combining the disciplines and talent advantages of HENU with the national medical advanced platform, promoting the better and faster development of medicine discipline in HENU, and further improving the social service dedication ability of the discipline. At the same time, it will also promote the development of Zhengzhou's health undertakings and make greater contributions to Henan and even the country's medical higher education and medical and health services.
